One sees few, if any, paintings of Wickieups. These structures were built by the San Carlos Apache Indians and were seen almost exclusively in Southern Arizona. Mr. Empie played with his Apache friends in these dwellings. I don't know of another artist that would have painted this subject that actually had that experience. This painting was on loan and hung in the Phippan Western Art Museum before it sold.
